AAUW Brevard is recognized by the IRS as a 501 c (4) charitable organization and donations are not tax deductible except for donations made to the endowment funds at Brevard College and Blue Ridge Community College.

Scholarships: The Brevard Branch supports women and girls from Elementary to the College Level. Over the years we have funded hundreds of scholarships for girls and women in Transylvania County.

Funds from our online and in person book sales support fully funded Endowments at Blue Ridge Community College and Brevard College. In addition, annual contributions are made to provide more scholarship support for women who meet specific criteria set by the Branch. The colleges make selections from applicants who are from Transylvania County and have need of financial support.

Institute for Women in Leadership (IWIL) is a National program at Brevard College for young women that develops life skills and career goals. The Brevard Branch sponsors 2 young women from the class to attend the 3-day AAUW National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) which is held annually at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD

Elementary students, in the past, have had an opportunity to attend a week at the Green River Preserve summer camp in Cedar Mountain NC. This camp encourages the development of curiosity and a love of learning through outdoor experiences and questioning. Attending Students are nominated by teachers and counselors at the Elementary schools.

Middle School students have attended Campus Adventures which is a week long summer program at Brevard College that is focused on STEM.  The program’s goal is to inspire talented participants to pursue studies in sciencetechnology, engineering, and math. This supports AAUW’s goal of encouraging women to study and pursue careers in areas of STEM.  Attending students are nominated by teachers and counselors at the Middle Schools .

Scholarship Endowment Funds provide scholarships for women at Blue Ridge Community College and Brevard College. Contributions to these funds are tax deductible.  Use the following links to contribute. Brevard College chooses recipients based on criteria provided by the Branch.

As the Committee moves forward, it is exploring different ways to reach out in our community with different opportunities to promote equity for girls and women.  We hope to get input from leaders as to what the needs are and where the gaps are. This will allow us to move forward and use our fundraising efforts in a more effective manner. This focus will include high school students as well as focus on non traditional learners and certifications as well as other areas that have not been considered previously.
